The PLI Conferences event will take place this year on June 18th and 19th in Bordeaux, at the Palais de la Bourse. This edition is organized in partnership with Alphanov, Alpha-RLH, Amplitude and Lasea. Eleven internationally renowned guest speakers will be present to share their expertise.
Meet one of them: Richard CARTER, Associate Professor within the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Sciences at Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh.
- Can you present your background?
"I am an Associate Professor within the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Sciences at Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh and have spent the last 12 years working on applications of lasers for manufacturing, particularly ultra-short pulse lasers."
- What made you want to work in this field?
"I always like to have a tangable and practical application for my work and using lasers for manufacturing provides exactly that."
- How did you learn about the PLI Conferences and what does this event represent for you?
"I am one of the vice presidents of the Association of Industrial Laser Users (AILU) which performs a very similar role to CLP in the UK. So the PLI Conferences has always been on my radar and represents an excellent opportunity to catch up with my colleagues in France and the rest of Europe."
- What will be the subject of your conference?
"I will be giving a talk on some of the ultra-short pulse laser welding work we have been doing at Heriot-Watt. This is a really interesting, and I believe, potentially very impactful technique able to join together glasses and metals without adhesives."
- What do you expect from these two days of conferences?
"To get a good feel for what is going on in the field at the moment, to refresh some old contacts and to make some new ones."
