PLI Conferences : Guest Speaker – Andreas HEIDER

PLI Conferences : Guest Speaker – Andreas HEIDER

On September 24 and 25, Strasbourg will host the PLI Conferences, a must-attend event dedicated to laser processes for industry.

Organized by CLP, IREPA LASER, ICUBE, IPG PHOTONICS, PRECITEC, and the PHOTONICS INSTITUTE, with the support of TRUMPF and OPTOPRIM, in partnership with PHOTONICS FRANCE.

Among the many experts who will be speaking, we had the honor of meeting Andreas HEIDER from Bosch. In this interview, he shares his background, his insights on current and future trends in the field, but also his willingness to take part in the PLI Conferences.

Could you tell us about your professional background and significant experiences in the field of laser and industrial processes?

I have over 18 years of expertise in laser material processing, with a particular focus on the welding of copper materials and the industrialization of robust laser welding tasks in electromobility. I began my career as a research assistant in the material processing group at the IFSW of the University of Stuttgart. Since 2016, I have been employed at the corporate research center of Robert Bosch GmbH, where I concentrate on the advanced development of laser materials processing. Since 2018, I have served as the project manager for laser beam welding of e-mobility components. With an H-index of 16 and over 50 publications, I am recognized internationally as a leading scientific expert in my field.

How do you believe laser processes are revolutionizing the industry today?

Laser processes, as highly automatable and precise tools, are ideally suited for creating robust, cost-efficient, and intelligent production systems. The data generated during laser-based series production enables the application of advanced AI models, which enhance process robustness, cost-effectiveness, and innovation. This integration opens up entirely new avenues in product design, manufacturing, and our understanding of fundamental interaction mechanisms, ultimately revolutionizing how we approach industrial processes.

Why did you choose to participate in the PLI Conferences, and what are your goals as a speaker at this event?

I chose to participate in the PLI Conferences because it provides a unique platform for experts and industry leaders to share knowledge and insights on the latest advancements in laser technologies. My goal as a speaker is to highlight the critical role of laser welding in the future of electromobility and to discuss innovative approaches that can further enhance the efficiency and sustainability of manufacturing processes. I also aim to foster collaboration and dialogue among attendees, encouraging the exchange of ideas that can drive the industry forward.

As an expert, what do you believe are the main current and future trends in the field of industrial lasers?

I believe that laser material processing plays a key role in the future of manufacturing. Currently, one of the main trends in the field of industrial lasers is the increasing integration of automation and artificial intelligence in laser processing systems. This trend is expected to continue, leading to smarter manufacturing processes that can adapt in real-time to changing conditions. Looking to the future, the trend towards zero-defect production is essential for achieving efficiency and cost-effectiveness in production processes. This aligns perfectly with Bosch's motto, "Invented for Life," as it emphasizes the commitment to creating solutions that enhance quality of life for everyone. By minimizing errors and optimizing production methods, we can ensure that products are not only reliable but also contribute positively to the user experience and sustainability in various industries.

In your opinion, what role does the Club Laser et Procédés play in promoting and advancing laser technologies in the industry?

The Club Laser et Procédés plays a vital role in promoting and advancing laser technologies by serving as a hub for knowledge exchange and collaboration among professionals in the field. It provides a platform for networking, sharing best practices, and discussing the latest research and innovations. By organizing conferences, workshops, and training sessions, the Club helps to raise awareness of the capabilities and benefits of laser technologies, fostering their adoption across various industries. Additionally, it supports the development of standards and guidelines that ensure the safe and effective use of laser processes in industrial applications.

A big thanks to Andreas Heider !
